A striped scene completed craft

A Striped scene

about

Every zebra's stripes are in a unique pattern, just like your fingerprints! You can give unique stripes to a whole herd of zebras!

instructions

Materials: paper, ink, glue, scissors, pencil

What you need

  • Zebra body template
  • White paper
  • Colored construction paper
  • 1 metal washer
  • A piece of sponge
  • A small, shallow plate
  • Black paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Cotton balls (optional)

Washer in ink

1.

Print out the template, cut the body shape out, and use it to trace one or more zebras onto a piece of white paper. Pour some black paint into the shallow dish. Put the pencil through the center of the metal washer so that the washer is in the middle of the pencil.

Making zebra stripes

2.

Roll the washer through the black paint, and then roll it across the zebra body shape to make stripes. Don’t worry if the washer wobbles and makes squiggly lines— zebra stripes aren’t all perfectly straight! Trim a narrow piece off of the sponge and dip the edge of it in the black paint, and then use it to make stripes a different way.

Remember that zebras live in herds, so you’ll want to make more than one zebra for your picture. Set the zebras aside to dry.

Zebras on the savanna

3.

Use colored construction paper to make a savanna scene. If you have cotton balls, glue them onto the sky to make fluffy clouds. Cut the zebras out and glue them onto the savanna.
